Alcoa Planning to Close Road
We recently learned that Alcoa is planning on closing the road that connects to the west end of the Bauxite Cutoff. This would shut off access to our range from that direction. A motion was made and passed to send a letter to the Saline County judge opposing this plan.

They are Fred Anderson, Tom Ballard, Charles Baxter, Mike Cozart, David Edwards, Jerry Henderson, Bob Hogg II, Clay Kannard, Keith Kannard, Gary Lawrence, Brian Leard, Mike Martin, Kenny Payton, Joe Pyle, Don Thompson, and Terry Wolverton. Bylaws Meetings Held in June
The Benton Gun Club bylaws committee met on June 2 at the Benton Family Restaurant. We had a great turnout, with 14 members present. A follow-up meeting was held on June 23. We'll have more details at the monthly club meetings and in upcoming issues of Windage.

Club Members Improve Shotgun Range
A big BGC "Thank You!" to club members Gerald Kitchen and Bill Shaw. If you see them, tell them thanks for the hard work they did on the road and parking area for the shotgun range. They had four loads of gravel put on it, and paid for it out of their own pocket. With club members like these, we'll soon have the best range in the state!

Range News
Many of you will be very pleased to learn that the club members approved a motion to install a second port-a-potty on the range. It will be installed near the falling plate range.
Also, the club members approved the purchase of a set of chicken targets for the silhouette matches. The cost will be $150.
Speaking of silhouettes, Frank Bray and Greg Sullivan are drawing up plans for the new silhouette range as well as the falling plate rifle range. Frank presented an initial layout to the members at the June meeting. He and Greg will start gathering information on prices for the necessary road and berm work. They should have something for the members to look at and vote on at the July or August club meeting.
We'd also like to welcome our new Range Maintenance Officer, Bob Elrod. Bob lives in Benton and can get a crew together to take care of any range maintenance items. He can be reached by phone at 778-2165 (leave a message) or via e-mail at brod@up-link.net. Any suggestions or needs for range maintenance should go through him.

Member Alert! There are no trash cans on Benton Gun Club Ranges. We have burn barrels ONLY on ranges 1, 2, 3, and 4. Please place your unwanted targets, ammo boxes, cardboard, paper and other items that will burn in these barrels. If it will not burn, please take it home with you and dispose of it properly. Help keep our range clean so the people who work range maintenance can use their time for things like improvements instead of cleanup!
