Range and Match News
There will be a range committee meeting at noon on Saturday, February 28, on the action range (lower range #5). All club members are invited to attend.
The members approved a motion at the February meeting to hold an IDPA night match on the action range on April 3 and an IDPA 200-yard 3-gun match on June 5 at 8:00 a.m. The members also approved a motion to obtain quotes for the work that needs to be done for the new small bore rifle range.
In other news, the members approved the purchase of three sets of new animal targets for the small bore silhouette match, at a cost of $500.00. Also, most of the new reactive targets (which were approved at the January meeting) for the speed steel match have been made. The remainder will be ready in time for the upcoming match.
Match Directors: don't forget that the 2004 plaques are in the shed. Please take only what you need and return any unused 2003 or earlier plaques so they may be changed to 2004.

2004 Range Gate Keys Mailed
The new range gate keys (stamped with the number "27") have been mailed. If you have not received yours, please call 315-3071 and leave a message.
Speaking of the gate, please remember to keep it locked, except during public matches. The only time non-members are allowed to use the range is during such matches, so keep it locked at all other times.

Next Work Day: February 29
The club will hold its next work day on February 29, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. In addition to the usual repairs and cleanup, we need a small backhoe for some light dirt work. If you have one, please let the club know that you will be able to lend a hand on the work day. We will have to rent one if we cannot find a volunteer.

Concealed Carry Course Scheduled
The club will hold its next NRA concealed carry license class for all club members and/or their spouses on March 23, 24 and 25 (6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) with handgun qualification on Saturday, March 27 at the range. The cost is $40.00 (this fee is non-refundable unless the class is canceled). The state fee for the license, background check and FBI fingerprint check is $144.00. The license is good for four years. Mail your $40.00 check (made out to the Benton Gun Club, Inc.) to P. O. Box 139, Benton, AR 72018-0139. Class size is limited to twelve people and there are only three spots remaining as of this writing.

Beretta Shotgun Raffle
The club is holding a raffle for a Beretta AL-391 semi-auto "NRA Gun of the Year" shotgun. We're offering 100 tickets at $20.00 each.  Half of the proceeds will go to the NRA Foundation, and the other half will go to the club. There are only eight tickets left, but they may already be gone by the time you read this. (See what you miss by not going to the monthly club meetings?) If you're interested in purchasing a ticket, contact Paul Stiedle. His number is listed below.

Friends of the NRA Banquet Planned
Kevin Greb is putting together plans to hold an NRA banquet in Benton in March of 2004. The next planning meeting will be held sometime in April. If you would like to volunteer to help out, please contact Kevin at 776-3555.

Member Alert! There are no trash cans on Benton Gun Club Ranges. We have burn barrels ONLY on ranges 1, 2, 3, and 4. Please place your unwanted targets, ammo boxes, cardboard, paper and other items that will burn in these barrels. If it will not burn, please take it home with you and dispose of it properly. Help keep our range clean so the people who work range maintenance can use their time for things like improvements instead of cleanup!
