the shooting sports, we see this as a great opportunity to get the word out.

Officer Elections Coming Up
Please remember that this fall we'll be electing new officers for the coming year. It's not too soon to consider running, or to think about making a nomination.

Friends of the NRA Banquet Planned
Kevin Greb, new club member and Arkansas field representative for Friends of the NRA, came by the August meeting looking for volunteers to assist with organizing a Friends of the NRA banquet for the Benton area. If you would like to volunteer or get more information, call Kevin at 776-3555.

New Members
We welcomed thirteen new members at the August meeting. They are Eddie Barry, Jerry Benn, Freddie Blohm, Drew Camp, Mike Chandler, Lester Gaither, Clyde Gates, Kevin Greb, Dennis Mitchell, Greg Rudell, Ralph Rupple, Scott Wall, and Bill Williams. Glad to have you with us, guys!
Please note that all new members must attend the mandatory range and safety orientation before using the range. You are not a fully qualified member until you attend the orientation.
Also, don't forget that all new members are entitled to shoot in one club match per shooting discipline free of charge. Look over that match schedule, and come out and experience the fun of competition shooting.

Bylaws Meeting
The Bylaws meeting was held following the August 11 regular club meeting. There was a lot of spirited discussion of the proposed changes. (See last month's issue of Windage for a summary.) All changes were approved, with the exception of two items that would have permitted fully automatic fire on the range under certain conditions. An updated copy of the bylaws will be mailed to all club members.

Range Construction Survey
We included a survey in last month's newsletter looking for your feedback on how to proceed with financing for the construction of the remainder of the new ranges. So far, we've received 81 responses. That's not a bad response, but we'd like to hear from more of you. It's not too late to put your two cents in. If you haven't already, please complete the survey and send it in. If you don't have a copy of last month's newsletter handy, call the club information line and leave a message with your e-mail or regular mail address, and Rex Gismond will send one to you.

Culvert to be Installed
The club members approved a motion to put in a culvert and lay down gravel at the range entrance with the new gate. Several members have reported problems with mud holes at that entrance, and the gravel is needed to take care of the situation.

Public Sight-in Day Publicity
The club members approved a motion to invite Jason Harper of Little Rock television station KATV to do a story promoting our upcoming public sight-in day scheduled for October 11 at 8:00 a.m. If he does the piece, it will be aired live on KATV's Daybreak program sometime during the week preceding the sight-in day. Since one of the primary purposes of our club is to promote public awareness of and interest in

Member Alert! There are no trash cans on Benton Gun Club Ranges. We have burn barrels ONLY on ranges 1, 2, 3, and 4. Please place your unwanted targets, ammo boxes, cardboard, paper and other items that will burn in these barrels. If it will not burn, please take it home with you and dispose of it properly. Help keep our range clean so the people who work range maintenance can use their time for things like improvements instead of cleanup!
