Range Closed Temporarily
Effective immediately, the Benton Gun Club range will be temporarily closed to all shooting except for scheduled matches. On Sunday, July 11, a woman who lives north of ranges 1 and 2 reported to a club member that rounds passed over her head. Until such time as we can determine whether or not these rounds came from our property, the range will be closed except for supervised, scheduled matches. If an event is on the published match schedule, it will still go on as planned.
The club members voted at the July 12 club meeting to take this action as a precautionary and proactive measure. The members also voted to hire a professional ballistics expert to determine whether or not the rounds could have come from ranges 1 or 2. This expert will also be asked to look at all of our ranges to determine possible impact points beyond our property.
The club members also approved a follow-up motion to change the locks on the gates and to have signs posted explaining that the range is closed to unsupervised shooting.
We will reexamine this matter at the August 9 club meeting. We hope to have more details and information from the ballistics expert by then. We will decide at that time if the range will be reopened for unsupervised shooting.
If you have any questions, please contact one of the club officers at the numbers listed below, or call the club information line at 501-315-3071.

Bylaws Meeting Set for August 9
A motion was approved at the July club meeting to hold another bylaws meeting on August 9 at 6:30 p.m., immediately preceding the regular club meeting. This meeting will once again discuss the issue of direction of fire on the lower ranges. In addition, we will consider altering the way large expenditures are approved by the club members. The proposal is that expenditures above a certain amount will require two club meetings in order to get passed: one meeting to propose the expense (which will be announced in the newsletter), and then a follow-up meeting to actually vote on the proposal. Please make an effort to be at this important meeting on August 9.

Range News
As reported last month, all of the dirt work on lower range #2 (Smallbore Silhouette) has been completed, including the gravel road leading to the target area. The target stands have also been completed and are ready to be installed. This range still needs pads and sheds, and the club members approved a
