accurate list and cost of materials, a budget allotted to pay for it and the people to oversee its completion. The plinking range is well down the road with a plan and a budget already approved. We need to get started on the plans for the bench rest range. Either hired or volunteer labor it will require people. People to plan, people to get prices, people to talk with contractors, people to pick up material, people to oversee.
#2) Maintenance of the dirt backstops on range #1, #2, and #5 needs to be refilled, along with cleaning the silt out of some of the ditches. This needs to happen when the dirt contractor's equipment is already on site. Once again a written plan needs to be presented so everyone will know what should be done.
#3) The youth program needs to be started, this is our future. We need a group of volunteers to become role models and introduce youths to all fazes of shooting from plinking to hunting to competition. This club has a wide variety of knowledgeable shooters so it shouldn't be hard to find experts in rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooting. This program should center on safety but be heavy on fun. It should have lots of shooting. You are probably able to instruct your son or daughter in proper firearm handling, but it's a fact that most youth learn more from a non-parental instructor or mentor. The youth in our area should benefit, so we need to reach outside the club to Boy and Girl Scout programs, 4H and church youth groups.
#4) Represent the Benton Gun Club as a positive group of gun owners, and increase our membership. I have never been to a club match where too many shooters showed up. Most responsible gun owners in this area do not know about us. I think this is a mistake. I think we need to rent tables at all the area gun and hunting shows. We could give out match schedules and maps to the range. We could answer questions about our club and the competitions we have. We could sell NRA memberships, or sell tickets for a special drawing for something. We could tell interested people how to join our club. We could have pictures of our range and some or all of the matches we have. If we had some video we could let people watch.

#5) Support the Friends of the NRA. This is an important function that enables grants to be awarded to build or improve shooting ranges and shooting programs. This in turn encourages and allows fellow shooters to exercise their 2nd amendment rights. By support I mean volunteer. Volunteer to contact local merchants and ask for donations to be raffled and sponsorship. Volunteer to help plan a meal and help set up the day of the event and then have fun at the event. The local 4 H Club, Central Arkansas Shooters Association, and Mountain Valley Shooters Association have all received grants to improve their ranges because they support the FRIENDS banquets. The food and the entertainment are great. Everyone should try to attend one or more of these banquets.
If you are interested in helping with any of these projects, and especially if you have experience please contact me.

New Members
We welcomed nine new members at the February meeting. They are John Bedwell, John Bowling, Jerry Brown, Patrick Heffner, Harry Justice, Greg Matula, Willie May, Donna Mcgriff And Lewis Webb. Welcome to the club, folks!
If you are a new member
and a new member of the NRA, please send a copy of your membership card or the label from your NRA magazine to the club post office box. This will enable the club secretary to update the files with your NRA number and correct expiration date.
Please note that all new members must attend the mandatory range and safety orientation before using the range. You are not a fully qualified member until you attend the orientation.
Also, don't forget that all new members are entitled to shoot in one club match per shooting discipline free of charge. Look over that match schedule, and come out and experience the fun of competition shooting.
